Recipe straight down at the bottom

So brown skinned girl made some brownies, ever so yummy brownies!

Good people brownies are one of those things your girl right here didn’t grow up eating why? Well because my family did not care for such; I am from that family that don’t find such things as brownies (and please allow me to add muffins and cupcakes to the list as well) as important, as long as we have food to fill up our tummies we good, cakes and everything along those lines are for when it’s someone’s birthday.

So Lele, since your family isn’t really into cakes, what sparked the idea to make brownies?”

Well am I glad you asked!!

You see, it was this other Sunday and I was just from church (as you know I’m a church-girl), I was in shoprite (grocery shop) to buy a few things. So as I was moving along the isles something caught my eye in the cakes and muffins section, something brown. From far, it looked like ribs, but to me that was crazy because how can ribs be in the sweets and cakes section?

So as you can imagine, I moved closer in order to get a better view, as I got closer, the clearer it became, what I saw wasn’t ribs at all, it was something called ‘A chocolate slice’. My goodness it looked so good and I know you’re not going to believe this but I think I heard it call my name, it was something like “Lele, buy me girl”….

….I bought it

Came home, tasted it, my goodness it was delicious. It was almost like chocolate but it wasn’t, almost like a brownie but it wasn’t. How can I describe it… Ok in simplest terms, it tasted like chocolate and brownie had a baby, and that baby was born with coconut sprinkles, lol, for real.

And to finally answer your question, that chocolate slice is what sparked the idea to make brownies with the hope that one day, I will know how to make that chocolate slice. So watch the space good people.

You can get that chocolate slice at shoprite at just R7.99.

Before I can give you the recipe, here’s few tips to keep in mind about brownies:

1) Melt butter then add in eggs and sugar, beat really well as they will incorporate a lot of air in the batter and will ensure soft and fudgy brownies

2) Do not overbake your brownies

3) Always remember, the higher the cocoa, the more intense the flavor

4) It is very important that you let your brownies chill for about 10-15 minutes after baking before you take them out of the pan to avoid crumbling

Ok, my never stop talking self is done. Please find the recipe down below:

PrepTime: 10 minutes

CookTime: 20-25 minutes

Servings: 6-8 people

INGREDIENTS:

· 2 cups butter

· 1 ½ cups white sugar

· 3 large eggs

· 1 Tablespoon vanilla essence

· ½ cup + 1 Tablespoon cocoa

· 2 cups white flour

· 1 teaspoon salt

· ½ teaspoon baking soda

For Frosting

· 4 Tablespoons butter

· 3 Tablespoons cocoa powder

· 2 Tablespoons honey

· 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

· 1 cup white sugar

DIRECTIONS

1) Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius

2) Melt butter then pour in the bowl

3) Stir in sugar

4) Now add in eggs and vanilla and mix really well

5) Add in flour and mix well

6) And now add in cocoa powder

7) Now pour mix in prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, checking occasionally

FOR FROSTING:

Combine butter (softened), cocoa, honey, vanilla, sugar, and then mix until smooth. Frost your brownies 10-15 minutes after they are out of the oven.

Keep brownies cooled in the fridge, the colder the better
