Hello good people, today I have something so good for you. Yes we are still about cooking but instead of cooking today, we are going to talk cleaning, cleaning with ingredients you already have in your home, whaaaaaat??!! OH YES! Without wasting any time, let’s get right to it.

1) EGGSHELLS

Always throwing out shells after making eggs? Honey, time to stop that! You’re throwing out your answer to clean and shiny pots. Eggshells are very good at cleaning pots and pans that can be tough to clean.

How to prepare eggshells

  1. Collect about 16 eggshells and clean them thoroughly. You can either leave them in the sun until they are dry or low heat them in the oven for a few minutes.

  2. Now crush the eggs into fine powder, you should have about a cupful once you are done

  3. And now good people you can start cleaning. Sprinkle soapy water onto your pot then add shell powder and start scrubbing, you will see your pot getting shinier and shinier.

2) POTATO PEELS

Stop throwing out your potato peels, either make yummy potato peel crisps (which I will give you the recipe of one of these days) or use them to remove rust.

How to clean using potato peels

  1. Peel your potato and cook whatever you planned to make

  2. Next, instead of throwing out those peels, dip the inside of the potato peel in baking soda and with a little scrubbing, watch the rust go away.

3) LEMONS

Oh lemons, always coming through for us in so many different ways. From helping with our digestive system to cleaning our houses and leaving a fresh smell. Speaking of smell, you know that stubborn smell on your hands after cutting onion or garlic? Lemons can come to the rescue with that leaving your hands smelling great.

What you will need to do:

  1. Cut up a slice of lemon and rub it on your hands

  2. Rinse with water and you will be left with a clean citrus scent (just make sure you don’t have any cuts on your hands before rubbing)

4) VINEGAR + BICARBONATE OF SODA

There is nothing more annoying than a clogged drain; that’s why I’m coming through for you with this great tip on how you can unclog your drain

Follow the following steps:

  1. Pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain

  2. Followed by ½ cup bicarbonate of soda

  3. Then pour ½ cup vinegar down the drain

  4. Cover with drain plug and leave it for an hour

  5. Unplug the drain and pour a kettle of boiling water once again

5) COKE

Oh man this one always breaks my heart because it always feel like I am wasting, lol. At the same time though, coke is very good at removing stains and is way cheaper than stain removers out there which are sometimes inefficient. We all know how difficult it can be to remove grease from clothes, but, no worries because we have coke to the rescue. So yayy!!

How:

  1. Wet the part on your clothing that has grease on

  2. Add soap, then coke, then start washing

  3. Dry your clothing then voila, grease gone

So yes, the above are my top 5 ingredients that I use around my house, there are so many more ingredients that come in handy when cleaning. Good people the next time you want to throw something out, ask yourself this, “Can I reuse this for something else?” and more likely than not, the answer will be YES! Hope you enjoyed reading; I would love to hear ingredients you use to clean around your house too, be sure to leave a comment.
