Ingredients straight down at the bottom

So in this post, I will be sharing how I developed my relationship with God and what I do to draw closer to Him. And of course my good people, I also have ingredients for you for this yummy chicken wrap I made, y’all know I got you, please find the recipe straight down at the bottom.

God is our Father, our Creator, and every time I praise and worship Him I get filled with so much joy. However, I have not always felt like this. Growing up, I never knew what it meant to have a relationship with God, I always thought of Him as someone so serious that you could not really communicate with, I saw Him as someone you only pray to, and if He answers your prayers, lucky you, if He does not, then just keep praying. I had this mentality until I got to the university.

To me, it was not even necessary to go to church, all I had to do was just pray in my room and He will still hear me. This mentality did not get me far spiritually, because I did not commit to anything. I only prayed when I needed something from God, I hardly listened to praise and worship songs and I read the bible once in a very long time. I was spiritually hungry but I tried as hard as I could to suppress that feeling, however, it got worse and worse. Then in August of 2013 during my first year at the university, for the first time that year, I decided to go to church, and it was at this church that I learnt the following two things:

1. Yes it is true, it does not matter where you pray, it can be in your room, in your car, or whatever place you may think of, God will hear you.

2. As much as God hears us when we pray wherever we are, we still have to go to church because that is where you get to pray with other people and just experience God’s presence and His love on another level. God says in Mathew 18:20 – “For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them”.

So how did I develop a relationship with God?

1. I started going to church, not only when it suited me, if it was Sunday (the day I go to church on) I just told myself “It is God’s day today, I have devoted it to Him, and I am going to church”.

2. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus died on the cross for us (Galatians 2:20). He died for us to save us, to wash away our sins. Accepting Jesus as my Lord and Saviour definitely drew me closer to God.

3. I read my Bible and put it into practice (James 1:22). In order for us to learn about God and His nature, we need to read His word (Psalm 119:105). His word will teach you how He works (Romans 8:16; Zachariah 4:6). His word will teach you what He requires of us (Phillipeans 4:6). His word will teach you of his undying love for us (Isaiah 43:4). His word enables us to learn all that he has planned for us (Jeremiah 29:11).

4. I started praying more meaningful, not just for the sake of praying. Praying is the best way to communicate with God. Praise God, worship God, tell Him about your situation, tell Him what worries you, tell Him what makes you happy, and feel free to talk to your God about anything. God loves hearing from us.

In conclusion…

A relationship with God is the most important relationship anyone can ever have. At the end of the day we are in this world because of God, we are here to serve Him and do everything according to His will.

So my good people, that is basically how I developed my relationship with God but it’s not perfect, believe me. I still have days where I follow my flesh and I am not proud of it; this is the reason I have made it a habit to always ask for forgiveness from God, every time I pray. Just knowing that He is always there, and that He has promised never to leave me nor forsake me, that fills me up with so much peace and Joy!!
